Student Voice

Clonaslee College values the voice of the students. They are regularly consulted through surveys on a range of topics including most recently curriculum provision and changes in line with the new Junior Cycle. Through a survey conducted last December their request for trips, lockers and vending machines were met. The 6th years went on a trip (Retreat) to Castletown recently. Ty students went to Paris and had a fantastic time visiting many of the marvelous sites and spending time in Disneyland. 1st and 2nd years (62 students) and four teachers will travel by ferry on 10th -12th April to UK. They will visit Alton Towers for a day, Old Trafford stadium and a war museum. Students will also be given free time in the Trafford Centre for shopping. 3rd year students are heading off shortly to Tayto park where they will visit the zoo and enjoy many of the amusement rides.

We have Prefect and Cairde systems and a Student Council in place. A student focus group has been set up to review the Code of Behaviour. Parents have also been consulted and a parental focus group is meeting to discuss policies and ways to implement improvements.

Members of the student council recently attended training provided by the LOETB in Tullamore. They organised a range of events for Christmas. They planned a fun quiz for the last day before the students break for a well earned rest at Christmas. The Student Council also organised a well being event where all students received a candy cane with a positive note about them from the members of the student council.

A head boy and head girl were elected by the 6th year student body in 2019. David Mc Kane and Roisin O’ Donovan were successfully elected. They are responsible for many duties including meeting and greeting external guests, liaising with senior management and speaking at public events. They will also give end of year speeches at our awards and graduation ceremony where our invited honoured guest is Evelyn Cusack the female meteorologist from Met Éireann.

The staff and management of Clonaslee College is committed to maintaining a caring, respectful atmosphere and a culture where students voice is encouraged and listened to.
