Cairde Mentoring Program
At Clonaslee College, we understand that the transition from primary to post-primary education can be both exciting and challenging for our incoming 1st-year students. To help make this change smoother and more enjoyable, we have developed the Cairde Mentoring Program.
Transition Year students volunteer to become mentors, completing an application process that includes an interview to assess their suitability. Once selected, mentors attend a workshop that clearly outlines their role and responsibilities. Throughout the year, they work closely with the 1st-year Year Head to provide guidance and support, helping new students adjust to their school environment.
Throughout the year, our dedicated Cairde mentors organise fun and engaging activities to celebrate the end of each term, promoting school spirit and encouraging bonding among 1st-year students.
These activities are designed to foster teamwork, friendship, and a sense of belonging, helping new students build strong connections with their peers. Whether it’s team-building exercises, themed events, or just a fun day out, Cairde mentors ensure that every first student feels supported and included as they navigate their first year at Clonaslee College.
The Cairde Mentoring Program not only helps students feel more comfortable in their new environment but also encourages lasting friendships, making the school experience more enjoyable and rewarding for everyone involve.
In addition to assisting with day-to-day activities, Cairde mentors also play a key role at parent-teacher meetings and open nights, offering support and information to parents. This initiative fosters a sense of community, helping both students and families feel connected and supported at Clonaslee College.
The Cairde Mentoring Program is a wonderful opportunity for our Transition Year students to develop leadership skills while making a positive impact on the 1st-year students’ experience.
Student Council
The Student Council at Clonaslee College empowers students to take an active role in shaping their school experience. Representing their peers, council members collaborate with staff and administration to bring student ideas to life, foster positive change, and enhance school life for everyone.

Our council members, including the Head Boy and Head Girl, are chosen through a democratic process where students vote using the Single Transferable Vote (STV) system. This ensures that every voice is heard, and representatives are elected fairly to best reflect the student body’s views.
At the heart of the Student Council are the Head Boy and Head Girl, who lead by example and embody the values of our school community. As key representatives, they guide the council, inspire their peers, and play a pivotal role in fostering school spirit and unity.
By joining the Student Council, students develop leadership, communication, and teamwork skills while making a meaningful impact on their community. From organising events to advocating for student needs, it’s an opportunity to have your voice heard and make a difference.
