Art & Culture

The Arts

Music is offered as a Leaving Certificate Applied Module, while students in Willow (ASD) study Music Appreciation.

Extra Curricular activities include:

  • Trad Group
  • School Choir

Our extracurricular programs provide students with opportunities to develop their talents, express themselves, and build confidence outside the classroom.
Students compete in music competitions and have achieved All-Ireland success in Scór, Fleadhanna Ceoil and the World Irish Dancing Championships amongst others.

Choir

At Clonaslee College, students have the exciting opportunity to join our school choir, directed by Ms. Buckley, Ms. Heffernan, and Ms. Larkin. Open to all students from first to sixth year, there is no audition required—just a passion for singing and a love of music!

The choir meets weekly during lunchtime, where students rehearse and learn to harmonise, listen to each other, and develop their musical skills. The choir plays a vital role in enhancing the spirit of our school community.

Whether you’re a seasoned singer or just starting, the choir is a welcoming and fun place to share your voice and make music together. Come be a part of something special at Clonaslee College!

Podcasting

Clonaslee College Podcasting Club is a dynamic part of the broader STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) initiative organised by the Laois and Offaly Education and Training Board (LOETB). This forward-thinking programme integrates digital and creative skills into school curricula, equipping students for the challenges of the modern digital workplace.

At the heart of our club is The Clonaslee Times, a dedicated podcast studio where students explore storytelling and audio production. Through engaging workshops, participants create podcasts inspired by local stories and topics, following the innovative “i-Walks” model. This approach emphasises creativity, collaboration, and narrative skills, offering students practical experience in media production.

Podcasting is just one facet of the STEAM programme, which also encompasses robotics, coding, Minecraft Education, and LEGO challenges. Together, these activities nurture problem-solving, critical thinking, and teamwork skills, making the initiative a valuable platform for students interested in blending creative and technical pursuits.

Book Club

Clonaslee College Book Club provides students with a peaceful space to enjoy reading at their own pace and share their love of books with like-minded peers. The club meets weekly, offering a relaxed environment where students can delve into their chosen books, guided by their personal interests rather than a set reading list.

Rather than focusing on a single title, the club follows the students’ lead, creating opportunities for informal discussions about favourite authors, genres, and literary discoveries. This approach allows each member to explore their unique reading journey while connecting with others who share a passion for storytelling.

By fostering a quiet, supportive atmosphere and encouraging open dialogue, Clonaslee College Book Club inspires a genuine appreciation for literature and a lifelong love of reading.
