Principal's Welcome

Clonaslee College is a beautiful school set in the scenic foothills of the Slieve Bloom Mountains. It was cleverly designed to create a state of serenity. The school building is conducive to keeping students and staff safe, with outdoor corridors and well ventilated classrooms within a ground level flooring.

Our school motto ‘Scientia Potentia est’; knowledge is power. This means that through knowledge we are committed to empowering students to achieve their full potential.

Together with parents and the community, we endeavour to ensure all our students leave Clonaslee College confident and happy, equipped with the life skills necessary to excel in their personal and academic lives. We strive to ensure a caring environment where respect for self, others and the community is encouraged. Through ongoing praise, encouragement and providing a range of learning opportunities, the physical, mental, emotional and social well-being of students is developed.

At Clonaslee College we offer students quality learning experiences but also encourage the development of a wide range of skills and thinking abilities. Creativity in the classroom is fostered through self-directed learning and through the use of a wide range of resources including IT. We are delighted to have a highly dedicated and hardworking staff who ensure the delivery of a high quality educational experience in a supportive environment.

In October 2024 we voluntarily took part in the DES Wellbeing pilot inspection project where the school community was commended highly for its work in promoting a culture and creating an environment that supported students’ wellbeing that was of a very good standard. Respectful and positive teacher-student interactions were a notable feature of all lessons.

Research has proven that students learn more effectively if they are happy in their work, believe in themselves and feel a school is supporting them. Hence, we place great emphasis on maintaining an extremely supportive pastoral care system. As a school community we promote the development of resilience to help students cope better with challenges of life as they move forward into adulthood.

We are proud to offer a range of extra-curricular activities. Many sport and clubs take place each day during lunchtime including podcasting, traditional music, choir, chess, public speaking, games club, book club, robotix & lego alongside a range of sports. We continue to enjoy great success annually in hurling, football, soccer, ladies football and basketball. Students’ achievements in the other areas of learning are recognised and promoted throughout the school and local media.

We have an excellent, highly skilled AEN core team who have developed a school-wide systematic, collaborative, and collective approach to inclusive and special education. We are delighted to have seen the addition of two special ASD classes, a new sensorial room and two specialised ASD classrooms, a new state of the art Science lab, and two new English classrooms over the last two years. A new build has been approved for a new DCG room, Art room and two new classrooms.

Excellent attendance is encouraged for all students as this leads to improved educational attainment. The school has enjoyed an exemplary academic reputation, with students performing extremely well in both the Junior and Leaving Certificates. Past alumni have continued to be successful in their chosen fields of study, careers and apprenticeships.

As principal, I am proud to introduce our college to you and this website will tell you more about the special qualities of our school and the outstanding all-round education we offer and how we aim to meet the commitment to achieve the best for each student.

We look forward to welcoming you to our school community.

Ms. Suzanne McMahon,
Principal
