As part of their Leaving Certificate Geography course, Clonaslee College students recently braved the elements to complete their Geographical Investigation at the Clodiagh River in Brittas Forest. This essential fieldwork, worth 20% of their overall grade, allowed students to put their classroom learning into practice in a real-world setting.
Despite the challenging weather conditions, students tackled their investigation with great enthusiasm. They measured the river’s velocity, calculated a cross-section, assessed the gradient, and determined the valley profile- all key components in understanding river processes and landforms. Armed with measuring tapes, flow meters, and ranging poles, they worked together to collect accurate data that will be analysed in class and compiled into their project booklets.
This hands-on experience is a vital part of the Leaving Certificate Geography syllabus, giving students a deeper understanding of fluvial processes while also developing key skills in data collection, analysis, and teamwork.
A huge thank you to Ms. King and Ms. Murphy for facilitating this important investigation. Best of luck to all our students as they progress with their projects your hard work and dedication will certainly pay off!
