Exploring Local History

Our 2nd Year students are busy at work on their Junior Cycle History Classroom-Based Assessment, ‘The Past in My Place’.

They’ve been investigating their local area, focusing on important historical places, events and people. Some students have chosen to explore family history, conducting interviews with relatives and examining how life has changed over time, considering topics from education and hobbies to work, emigration and daily life.

A number of students have been drawing on Fr Reilly’s book ‘A Different Era: Life in a Small Village’, which offers detailed accounts of life in Clonaslee and the surrounding areas in the past. It was great to see students engaging with the chapter written by Ms Sweeney, our past principal, which provides valuable insights into the history of our school and community.

It’s brilliant to see students developing real-life skills of the historian in the classroom, and we can’t wait to see the finished projects on display very soon.
