LC Ag Students visited VistaMilk – Teagasc in Moorepark Fermoy where they got a tour of the rotary parlour and learnt about different milking trials being carried out. We then moved to the teaching lab for some revision of milk chemistry. Students conducted an experiment on protein coagulation in milk samples and used a digital refractometer to determine the lactose level in each sample. Thanks to Conor and Education Officer Elana for facilitating our visit and explaining all of the scientific research which is shaping modern Irish Agriculture.
