Official Opening of Narnia by Minister Josepha Madigan
Students felt the negative impact on their wellbeing of Social lockdowns and school closures and many suffered upset and anxiety.
We as a staff at Clonaslee College recognized the need to create a space where students could be offered a quiet distraction free zone. Minister Madigan was invited to the school on 11th March 2022 to open our new sensory room, named Narnia by the students. The room has a state of the art sensory pod, an attached sensorial seated area, a cave area to relax in and all built within a bespoke woodland themed surrounding. This room will not only be offered to our students with Special educational needs but to all students as and when the need arises. This sensorial space will help to alleviate somewhat their anxiety and stress.
She also celebrated the exciting news of the recent Department of Education & Science approval for the building of two new ASD classes, an Art room and a Graphics room.
Our head boy, Aodh Bowes and Deputy Head girl, Niamh Donogher presented the Minister with flowers and a ceramic mosaic made by the students.
