We have a long-standing tradition of basketball here at Clonaslee College. Many All-Ireland winning teams have passed through the school. Most recently we were crowned Minor B All-Ireland champions in 2016. Building on this success the school has been competing at A-Level over the last couple of years. This is a huge achievement for any school, but it is especially impressive for a small rural school like ours. Over the past number of years, we have reached consecutive All-Ireland Playoffs at the top level, with this school year being no exception. Our U16’s reached the playoff stages, while our second years won the Junior A Regional Final, which means they progress to the All-Ireland Quarter Finals on April 9th (in the Oblate Hall Inchicore). This continued success is due to the hard work, commitment and dedication to training from the girls. Their passion for basketball has always been echoed and enhanced by the strong club-scene here in Clonaslee.
We here at Clonaslee College have no doubt that the girls are serious contenders for an All-Ireland medal over the coming weeks.
