Our second annual Smile Week finished on a fantastic note, with Friday bringing fun, fresh air, and a few surprises along the way.
The morning kicked off with plenty of laughs in the courtyard as our 6th years arrived for ‘Anything but a Bag’ Day. The creativity was on full display. Students turned up with everything from air fryers and prams to toolboxes, traffic cones, and even bins in place of schoolbags. Congratulations to Sean O’Shea and Colm Cuddy, who were crowned joint winners for their inventive efforts and rewarded with some well-deserved Easter eggs.
Next, the entire school made their way to the community centre for our second annual Mile with a Smile. It was a chance for students to stretch their legs, get some fresh air, and catch up with friends. Meanwhile, the competition heated up between staff members racing to log their final steps for the Staff Step Challenge. In the end, no one could catch Ms. Larkin, who clocked up more steps than anyone thought possible!
After the walk, junior students let loose at a silent disco in the hall. TYs and teachers didn’t hold back either, showing off some unexpected moves and keeping the fun going. With headphones on and music pumping, it didn’t take long before the floor turned into a lively mix of group dances. From ‘Rock the Boat’ to the ‘Cha Cha Slide’ and a bit of ‘Saturday Night,’ it turns out the old tunes really are the best.
As the day wrapped up, our 6th years finally discovered their surprise activity—a fast-paced scavenger hunt. Teams dashed around the school completing challenges, monitored by our TY students, who kept close track on their progress. First to the finish line, completing all tasks in a rapid 9 minutes and 19 seconds, were Manus, James, Colm, Gary, Shane and Jack.
And with that, Smile Week came to a close. A massive thank you goes to Ms Staunton and our Wellbeing Committee, who truly are the dream team! Their planning and dedication ensured a packed week of fun activities to keep spirits high. Special recognition goes to our incredible TY Amber Flag committee made up of Laoise, Ciara, Jack, Lennon, Caoimhe and Conor. Their energy, enthusiasm and support helped bring the week to life. Their involvement made all the difference, and they certainly earned a big bualadh bos!
Keep an eye on our school Instagram for some reels that capture the fun and excitement of the day.
Here’s to more reasons to smile in the weeks ahead!
