Smile Week continued in great form on Day 2, kicking off with a fun-filled morning of games for our fifth and sixth year students. From Uno to 30 Seconds, students took a trip back to childhood and enjoyed some well-earned downtime with their classmates, with tea and snacks included, of course!
At break time, our TYs were busy running a popular bake sale, with queues forming to see their impressive range of treats. Ms. Cleare also announced the eagerly awaited results of the Staff Bake Off. Congratulations to Ms. Fitzpatrick, who was awarded the Certificate of Sweet Success for her Crunchie Slices. Rumour has it that planning has already begun among staff to claim the title of Great Teacher Baker 2026.
After break, the fifth years took to the astro for a high-energy game of Rounders. The match drew strong participation and competitive spirit, ending in a well-fought tie. Meanwhile, first and second year students welcomed guest speakers from the wonderful local charity, Laois SPCA. The visit focused on the benefits and responsibilities of pet ownership, as well as the vital services the organisation provides. Students were especially excited to meet some furry guests, including Ellie, the gentlest dog, and a whole group of playful kittens. A big thank you to Ms. Maher for organising such an enjoyable and informative session. (And apologies to parents for the sudden rise in requests for new pets—don’t forget to check out the LSPCA if you are considering!)
At lunchtime, the Courtyard Takeover was in full swing with our TYs playing DJ and creating a lively atmosphere in the sunshine. Their bake sale proved so popular that it continued through lunch, keeping students well-fed and happy.
After lunch, second years took part in an important Anti-Bullying presentation, which highlighted the value of recognising and reporting inappropriate behaviour to help maintain our safe and supportive school environment. First years enjoyed a movie afternoon featuring Inside Out 2, complete with sweet treats, followed by a Wellbeing Walk to get out into the fresh air and reset.
Finally, non-exam students were delighted with their No Homework Day, despite Ms. Staunton’s best efforts to pass it off as an April Fool’s joke!
A big thank you to our TY Amber Flag Committee, who played a key role in running activities, and to our dedicated Wellbeing Team, whose behind-the-scenes efforts continue to make Smile Week a real highlight in the school calendar.
