Our First Years have been busy enjoying our Subject Taster Programme since starting their secondary school journey at Clonaslee College. We caught a few photos of them getting stuck into their Engineering taster , trying out a subject that is completely new to many of them.
As a small school, we are proud to offer something that is not available to students everywhere: the opportunity to try subjects before choosing them. Rather than asking students to make important Junior Cycle choices without first experiencing the subjects, our Subject Taster Programme gives them that opportunity. The benefits of it are already clear. Our First Years are telling us they have been surprised by the subjects they enjoy and the subjects they’re discovering they are good at. Lots of students are even considering different options than they had originally expected!
Alongside Engineering, students are getting the chance to experience Home Economics, French, Art, Craft & Design, Woodwork, Technical Graphics, Geography and Business Studies . It has been fantastic to see our First Years getting involved and discovering subjects they may not otherwise have considered.
