We were delighted to welcome Garda Roy Cooper to Clonaslee this week to deliver The Lifesaver Programme to our senior students.
Road safety is a hugely important topic, particularly as many of our senior students are starting to drive. The presentation was really thought-provoking, with Garda Cooper sharing real-life stories that showed the serious impact road traffic collisions can have on individuals, families and communities.
Our students also took part in a practical challenge where they had to type a sentence on their phone while continuously bouncing a ball with their other hand. The activity clearly demonstrated how difficult it is to concentrate on two tasks at once and reinforced the dangers of distractions while driving.
Why not try the bouncing ball challenge yourself and see how difficult it is to focus on two things at the same time? It’s a simple activity that really drives home the message that when you’re driving, your full attention needs to be on the road.
Many thanks to Mr Lee for organising this very valuable session and to Garda Cooper for his time.
