Sustainability Week in Clonaslee came to a close with the presentation of our prize winners.
In first year, Ned and Cathal took first place in the Waste‑to‑Art competition with their impressive functional barn, created under tight time pressure. In 2A, Kayla, Michaela and Isabelle wowed the judges with a piece highlighting the harmful impact of waste on marine life. They created a fish whose stomach was filled with waste, symbolising pollution in our oceans. In 2B, Sarah and Shannon produced a sculpture of a man, made entirely from waste materials.
During the Rubbish Relay, all first‑year groups earned a treat for their participation, while in second year one group emerged as a clear winner. There was also prizes to be handed out for the group that collected the most rubbish during our Nature Walk, and the first and second year girls were recognised for their hard work.
2B were crowned champions of our Zero‑Waste Lunch Day, earning not only a treat but also a fun games class as a reward. Among the staff, Mr. Cotter impressed the judges with his completely waste‑free lunch and received a well‑deserved treat for his efforts.
Our TY Green Team were also recognised for their dedication in organising and running events throughout the week. Dylan was selected as a standout member for his consistent engagement and enthusiasm.
We are delighted to share that our prize winners received vouchers for Flynns in Clonaslee. This ensures the rewards support a great local business and keeps money circulating within our community, which is sustainability in action!
A huge thank‑you to Ms. Gallagher and her incredible Green Team for all their hard work in making our first ever Sustainability Week such a success. We encourage all students to carry forward what they’ve learned and remember: sustainability isn’t just for a week — it’s for life.
