Clonaslee College’s annual Sports Day once again proved to be the highlight of our school calendar, bringing together sunshine, fun, and unforgettable memories.
A wonderful day had been planned in advance, and it began with a test of brainpower before brawn, as students kicked things off indoors with the 3rd Annual Sports Day Quiz. From the entertaining Emoji Round that kept students guessing to the School Round that reminded us of all the fantastic school sporting moments from the past year, the quiz set the perfect tone for the day ahead.
With the sunshine beaming down, we then headed off to the field, where an exciting line-up of activities awaited. The classics made their return, including relays, penalty shootouts, and the ever-popular tug of war. Students were also delighted by the reappearance of some crowd favourites from previous years like pillow fighting and sumo wrestling. This year saw the addition of brand-new events too, including the high-stakes Rodeo Bull and the hilariously difficult Flowerpot Challenge. Students gave it their all in each event, hoping to rack up points for their teams and claim the coveted title of Sports Day Champions.
Impressive records were set throughout the day. One team in the Chair Challenge wowed everyone with their balance and determination by reaching the three-minute mark. However, none were more impressive than Clodagh Casey’s incredible 140 seconds on the Rodeo Bull (a feat made even more memorable when compared to some teachers’ four-second attempts!)
After students had completed the action-packed circuit of events, collecting points and memories along the way, it was time for the grand finale, the much-anticipated Staff vs Students Superstars Challenge. The atmosphere was electric as both sides lined up to face off in a series of high-energy events: ‘The Cube’, a lightning-fast balloon dash relay, a tug of war battle, elephant bowling, an inflatable obstacle course, and the always chaotic water bucket challenge. In the end, the staff pulled off a narrow win, much to their delight, showing the students that experience and teamwork still have their edge.
We’re thrilled to announce that the winning student team was the Black Team, made up of a combination of 5th and 6th Year Boys.
We were especially delighted to share the day with our exchange students from Vichy, France, who had the chance to immerse themselves in the unique energy and joy of a Clonaslee College Sports Day. A massive thank you goes out to Ms. Lydon and Ms. Staunton, whose dedication and hard work, alongside a fantastic team of helpers, made the day run so smoothly. It truly takes a village to organise an event of this scale, and we are grateful to every single person who helped make it a success.
Keep an eye on our school Instagram where we will be sharing more pictures of all the action.
With spirits high and smiles all around, Sports Day 2025 reminded us all why it’s one of the most anticipated and treasured events of the year. Roll on Sports Day 2026!
